"A wife of noble character who can find?..."

"A wife of noble character who can find?..."

Becoming Esther by Charo

"Before a girl's turn came to go in to King Xerxes, she had to complete twelve months of beauty treatments prescribed for the women, six months in oil of myrrh and six with perfumes and cosmetics. And this is how she would go to the king..."Esther 2:12-13

I have always been amazed at the kind of preparation that the future queen Esther had to go through before she was able to come before King Xerxes. Would any of us want to go through twelve months of beauty treatments before meeting the man of our dreams? Probably not, but then again, imagine the possibilities. One year set aside for one sole purpose - becoming all you can be for the one you love the most. Precious time to cultivate beauty, to make an investment in education and etiquette, to strengthen virtue, and build character.

The preparation of Esther reminds me of that precious time between the awakening of desire in a young woman's heart to share her life with a mate and the moment she walks down the aisle. For many, this time of preparation is seen as nothing more than a time of waiting. Single women often see themselves as sitting on the shelf, while life passes them by,

or as sitting on the bench while others play the game. They do not realize that they are wasting the most important time of their lives, they are robbing themselves of great joy and reward, they are robbing their future husbands of a more virtuous woman, and they are robbing God of a servant through whom He desires to do great things.

As Esther had to be prepared before she could be queen of an entire realm, so the woman must be prepared before she can embark on one of the most important and difficult callings in life - marriage and motherhood.

Esther had to learn the ways of the kingdom to which she belonged, she had to learn the manners of court life, the intellectual, emotional and spiritual challenges of high position. To put it simply, Esther had to be transformed from a young lady into a queen before she could wear the title and fulfil the role. In the same way, the single Christian woman must learn the ways of the Kingdom of Heaven before she ever unites with the one that God is preparing for her. She must be prepared intellectually, emotionally and spiritually, not by court attendants in some pagan temple, but by God Himself, His Word, and by other godly women who have been prepared before her.

Singleness is not a waste of time or a sitting on the sidelines, but a time that God has set aside especially for the woman, to make her into what He wants her to be, and to use her in ways that just might be impossible after marriage. Singleness is a time in which a woman is to cultivate the virtues that pertain to being a woman of God, so that she can offer to her future husband and the world something more than just a pretty face.

Remember in your singleness that you are not the only one single, but your future husband is passing through the same stage as you.

Would it not be a terrible thing to finally meet the man who is to become your husband only to find out that he has used his singleness to serve God and to prepare himself to be a better husband for you? And yet you did not use the freedom of your singleness to serve the Lord, nor did you take advantage of the training that God offered you?

Would it not also be a terrible thing to realize that your husband spent his days as a single man praying daily for your needs and the work of God in your life, while you neither prayed for him, nor responded to the grace of God that was given you as a result of his prayers?

It is a wonderful thing when God blesses a woman with a husband. That special someone who is "just perfect" for her in that he has been carefully and thoughtfully designed by God to be united as one with her. It is such a joy for the woman to look back and remember how God enabled her to wait on Him and that He was faithful to bless. It is still an even greater joy for her to know that her time as a single woman was also a time of seeking God and being faithful to Him and His purpose. That she did not for one moment wish to flee that state, but desired only to trust in God and wait upon His gracious sovereignty.

By no means is it a tragedy to be a single Christian woman, but the way of the world has once again infiltrated Christianity with the false idea that it is.

One of the greatest lies is that if you do not "have someone" or are not "actively looking", there is something wrong with you.

Another lie is that the single woman should be dating around as though looking for a husband were the same as shopping in a mall.

Still another even stronger lie is that the single woman should be giving her affections away indiscriminately so that she may be more "experienced" and know what to do when she finally finds the man of her choice.

My dear Christian, it is a lie and an affront to God to say that experience is the best teacher, when in fact it is God who is the best teacher, and though the world's motto is "live and learn," the Bible's advice is "learn and live." You do not need to be experienced, you only need to be knowledgeable of what God has said and obedient to it. You should not be looking for the man of your choice, but should be waiting on the man of God's choice. And when he comes, it will not be past experiences that will make your marriage work, but past chastity, purity, and godliness. We should hide our faces from the ways and experiences of this wicked world and look upon only those things that God has placed in the path He has prepared for us.

God knows exactly what you need and He even knows the desires of your heart better than you do. God loves surprises. He does not want you to be looking for your husband, He wants to bring him to you, and probably at a time you least expect it. If you disobey this advice, as so many other women before you, and take it upon yourself to look for a mate, you may find someone, but chances are that someone you find will not be the right one.

As women, our nature desires the company and companionship of a man. This is from God and therefore good. But at the same time, we are wrong to think that death will be the result if this need is not fulfilled.

Needing another as a companion is not like needing to take your next breath of air. That is, you can survive without companionship, at least until God has done His perfect work in you. Remember the Scripture, "God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear." (I Corinthians 10:13) I have found that there are two primary reasons why someone "desperately" needs someone else.

First of all, it is because they do not know God as they should. Is God not the God of all comfort? Is not Christ the exalted Lord who fills all things everywhere? Then why do we complain about how empty and alone we feel? Could it be that God extends our time of singleness so that we might find our life in Him and learn to be complete in Him? If we seek to be married because we feel that a husband will fill our lives or will in some way make us complete, we will be sorely disappointed in our marriage. No man, no matter how Christ-like could ever take the place of God in our lives, to think such a thing is pure idolatry. If we are not filled by God now and complete in Christ in the present, then not even a marriage made in heaven will be able to change our emptiness.

The second reason for desperately needing someone in our lives is plain selfishness. When we need someone in order to feel loved, or when we need someone so that our feelings of loneliness might dissipate, then we are wanting marriage for all the wrong reasons. Marriage should not be looked upon as an opportunity to have our needs met, but as an opportunity to meet the needs of another. If we have not learned to take our own needs to God, then we will probably overwhelm our husbands with our own needs and be unaware of his.

I have known Christian women who spent their days consumed with their own needs and constantly lamenting about why God had not brought someone into their life. But why should God entrust a godly man to a woman that is absorbed in herself and her own needs, and does not use the freedom of her singleness to serve God and prepare herself for His purposes?

Such a woman would have little to offer a godly husband! My dear friend, being single, like being married should be considered a very special and enjoyable time in the providence of God. It should not be considered a mere circumstance or a curse from which one should try desperately to flee. Being single is a time to learn of God and of ourselves, a time to discover who we are in Christ, and to grow in Christlikeness. It is a time to be zealous for good works and involved in ministry to others. Being single has a magic of its own that should be enjoyed in its time because once passed it may not return. There is nothing quite so sad as a woman now married who regrets what she could have been and done with her life while single. All was lost for the sake of hurrying to be married without consideration for the plan or work of God.

Every season in life has a beauty and wonder of its own. My prayer for all single Christian women is that they might enjoy their time in spite of the lies of the world. That they might be demanding and not settle for anything less than the perfect will of God. That they might wait patiently on God who is the giver of every good and perfect gift. That they might be like Esther, using whatever time God deems necessary to make them beautiful on the inside and out.

groOrganic Garden Planner Review

/
Product Description

Organic gardening is a popular subject today.  Many are becoming aware of the benefits of eating organically and growing vegetables and fruit in their own backyards.  This is not a new concept.  Rather it is a very OLD concept.  The “conventional” gardening and farming of today relies on the use of pesticides and chemical fertilizers.  “Organic” gardening and farming restricts the use of artificial chemical fertilizers and pesticides. Instead, organic growers rely on developing a healthy fertile soil and growing a mixture of crops.  This is the way our grandparents or great grandparents grew their produce.

    Corn, Avocado, and Tomato Salad

Here's a colorful medley that makes a delicious summer dish. You can serve it as a salad or call it a chunky dip and scoop it up with tortilla chips.
    Ingredients
    • 2 tablespoons olive oil
    • 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
    • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro
    • 1/4 teaspoon salt
    • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground pepper
    • 2 1/2 cups fresh corn kernels (from about 5 ears)
    • 1 1/2 cups diced avocado (1/2-inch pieces)
    • 1 pint cherry tomatoes, quartered
    • 1/2 cup finely diced red onion

    Instructions
    1. In a large bowl, whisk together the olive oil, lime juice, cilantro, salt, and pepper.
    2. Add the corn, avocado, tomatoes, and onion and toss to mix. Serve at room temperature. Serves 4 to 6. Tips: Choose ears of corn with bright green husks that are tightly closed. The ends of the corn silk should be golden brown, not pale -- an indication that the corn was picked too early.

To easily remove corn silk from the kernels, hold the ear in one hand and rub downward with a wet paper towel.

To remove corn kernels for a salad or salsa, stand an uncooked ear in a shallow bowl and use a sharp, thin-bladed knife. For chowder, add another step: reverse the knife and run the dull side down the ear to press out the rest of the corn and its milk.

    Avocado Quesadillas

    Ingredients:
    • 2 ripe tomatoes, seeded and diced
    • 1 firm-ripe Haas avocado, peeled and diced
    • 1 tablespoon chopped red onion
    • 2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
    • 1/4 teaspoon Tabasco sauce
    • 1/4 cup sour cream
    • 3 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro
    • 4 (6- to 7-inch) flour tortillas
    • 1/2 teaspoon vegetable oil
    • 1 1/3 cups coarsely grated Monterey jack cheese
    • Fresh cilantro sprigs (for garnish)
    Directions:
In a small bowl stir together tomatoes, avocado, onion, lemon juice and Tabasco sauce. Season with salt and pepper. In another small bowl stir together sour cream and cilantro and salt and pepper to taste.
Preheat broiler. Put tortillas on a large baking sheet and brush tops with oil. Broil tortillas on a rack set 2 to 4 inches from heat until pale golden. Turn tortillas and broil until other sides are pale golden. Sprinkle tortillas evenly with cheese and broil until cheese is melted and bubbling. Spread avocado mixture evenly over tortillas and top each with 1 of remaining tortillas, cheese side down, to make 2 quesadillas. Transfer quesadillas to a cutting board and cut each into 4 wedges. Top each wedge with a heaping teaspoon of sour cream mixture and garnish with cilantro sprigs.
    Serves 8.

    Chicken Cordon Bleu

The recipe may sound fancy, but it’s not hard to make. Simply pound boneless chicken breast halves and top each with prosciutto and mozzarella cheese. Roll up the chicken pieces, dredge in breadcrumbs, and bake.
This lightened version of Chicken Cordon Bleu remains tres dƩ licieuse despite a modest amount of butter. Fix mashed potatoes and a side of green beans while the chicken bakes.
Yield: 4 servings (serving size: 1 rolled chicken breast half)
    Ingredients
    1/4 cup fat-free, less-sodium chicken broth
    5 teaspoons butter, melted
    1 large garlic clove, minced
    1/2 cup dry breadcrumbs
1 tablespoon grated fresh Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese
    1 teaspoon paprika
4 (6-ounce) skinless, boneless chicken breast halves
    1/4 teaspoon salt
    1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
4 thin slices prosciutto (about 2 ounces)
1/4 cup (1 ounce) shredded part-skim mozzarella cheese
    Cooking spray
    Preparation
Preheat oven to 350°. Place broth in a small microwave-safe bowl; microwave at high 15 seconds or until warm. Stir in butter and garlic. Combine breadcrumbs, Parmigiano-Reggiano, and paprika in a medium shallow bowl; set aside.
Place each chicken breast half between 2 sheets of heavy-duty plastic wrap, and pound each to 1/4-inch thickness using a meat mallet or rolling pin. Sprinkle both sides of chicken with salt, oregano, and pepper. Top each breast half with 1 slice of prosciutto and 1 tablespoon mozzarella. Roll up each breast half jelly-roll fashion. Dip each roll in chicken broth mixture; dredge in breadcrumb mixture. Place rolls, seam side down, in an 8-inch square baking dish coated with cooking spray. Pour remaining broth mixture over chicken. Bake at 350° for 28 minutes or until juices run clear and tops are golden.

    Stuffed Zucchini Boats

    Ingredients
1/4 cup (50 mL) bulgur wheat (uncooked)
    4 medium zucchini (about ½ pound, 227 g each)
1/3 cup (75 mL) slivered almonds
1 tablespoon (15 mL) olive oil
1 small onion, diced (about 1 cup, 250 mL)
    2 large cloves garlic, minced
1/2 pound (227 g) lean ground beef (at least 90% lean)
    1 1/2 teaspoons (7 mL) ground cumin
1 teaspoon (5 mL) ground coriander
1/2 teaspoon (2 mL) ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon (1 mL) red pepper flakes
    1 teaspoon (1 mL) salt
3 tablespoons (45 mL) golden raisins
    1 14.5 oz. can (411 g) no-salt-added diced tomatoes, strained, juice reserved
1/4 cup (50 mL) chopped fresh parsley, plus 1 tablespoon (15 mL) for garnish
1/2 cup (125 mL) no-salt added tomato sauce
    Directions
    1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190ĀŗC). Cook the bulgur according to the directions on the package. Cut the zucchini in half lengthwise and scoop out the seeds with a spoon.
    2. Toast the almonds in a dry skillet over a medium heat, stirring occasionally, until they are fragrant and golden brown, about 3 minutes. Allow them to cool then chop them coarsely.
    3. Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the onions and cook, stirring, until they are soft and translucent, about 3 minutes. Add the garlic and cook for 1 minute more. Add ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a wooden spoon into small pieces, until it is nearly all browned, about 3 minutes. Stir in the cumin, coriander, cinnamon, red pepper flakes, and 1/2 teaspoon (2 mL) of the salt and cook for 1 minute more. Add the cooked bulgur, raisins and strained diced tomatoes and cook another 2-3 minutes. Remove from the heat and stir in the almonds and 1/4 cup (50 mL) of the parsley.
    4. Combine the reserved tomato juice, tomato sauce and remaining 1/2 teaspoon (2 mL) of salt in a 9×13 baking dish. Place the zucchini boats into the dish, cut side up, on top of the sauce and fill each zucchini boat generously with the beef mixture. Cover tightly with foil and bake for 30 minutes, then remove the foil and bake for 10 minutes more, until the zucchini is cooked through but still slightly firm. To serve, place 2 zucchini halves on a plate and drizzle with tomato sauce and garnish with parsley.

      Parent's Choice Baby Formula

Blessed are those who believe, but have never seen.

Faith. What is it? The Bible says that “faith is the the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen (Hebrews 11:1 KJV).” Without faith, people do not have hope. Think of the best Christmas morning with your family around the tree. All the while anticipating there is something waiting for you, but you just have to wait to receive it. Through faith people anticipate that there is a present waiting for them (i.e. eternity in Heaven with God). There is hope in knowing that God has assured people of something better and unseen.

According to the Bible, people cannot live by faith in something that they can see or else they will be living by sight instead. Through faith David conquered Goliath knowing that God was going to be faithful to Israel and deliver them from their enemies. Hebrews chapter 11 lists numerous people who, through faith, acheived great accomplishments. Another definition of faith could be “to take God at His word.” These numerous people took God at His word, and are now biblical heroes of faith. Even though they could not see God, they trusted that what He said He was going to do. Through faith people received promises of hope.

God does not promise people they will have riches, wealth, nor even an easy life. However, He does promise that the presents He wants to give them will be far better than anything they can imagine (1 Cor. 2:9). So next time you drive down Rodeo Drive or Hollywood Boulevard, remember that our faith assures us that we will be walking down streets of gold and past mansions built by none other than God Himself. Will you walk this life by faith in God's word, or will you be stopped by the distracting sights and sounds of life?

      Behind the Appearances

I like to cook and fix meals for my husband. Since I was a child I liked to watch my mom preparing meals for us, and enjoyed eating her food. Growing up I didn't do a lot of cooking, but in college I had no other choice, but to start cooking myself. I did, and I enjoyed so much that I started cooking for all my friends. It is such a good feeling when you offer somebody something you cooked with love, and they like it.

One day while preparing the ingredients for a meal, I was fascinated by these extra large potatoes. They seemed so healthy and you would not think for a minute that there might be something wrong with them. I started to peel them, they seem OK, but when I got to the middle of potatoes and they were brown. There were no signs on the outside to warn you that they were rotten inside.

I had to go deeper to remove the bad part and two things came to mind while removing the rotten part. One had to do with my own life and the other with the appearance of human being in general. I felt like God was telling me:” This is how much I had to remove from you; I had to cut deeper, though painful, to remove the filth in your life! I started crying, while recalling some of the painful moments in my life!

Many people live their lives as if they would have it all together, but inside they have a lot of depression, anxiety, hurt, and pain. It seems like we delight in showing off what we don’t have, and like to make people think that everything is just fine with us. God knows us so well, and still loves us and accepts us. Why then, are we afraid to be transparent?

I know one thing that can help us is examining our lives, confessing what is not right and leave it behind. I often heard people trying to excuse bad behaviors instead of dealing with the situation and do something about it. I admit that I struggle with anger, and there is no excuse about it. I need to deal with the issue and solve it. I can't take a pair of scissors, cut out the pages of my Bible that speak about anger, and pretend they are not there. None of us is perfect, but this should determine us not to remain at the same level of growth. By admitting our imperfections and allowing God to change us, we are changing and growing.

I think we can learn some lessons for life even from a rotten potato. Which brings my thoughts to a movie I've seen “Faith Like Potatoes”! An awesome movie that inspired me to have a real faith in spite of what the society or the circumstances tell me. Faith just like a potato, real and touchable.

Welcome to the Food for the Body and Soul Blog

I thought about the idea of creating a blog after a season of searching coupons, deals, and freebies, while knowing the importance of keeping my spirit alive and refreshed at the same time. We are bombarded with a lot of good deals and free things, and we tend to ignore the most important need of our spirit. It's time to quiet our hearts, and take a moment to thank God for life, for food, and everything else He provides for us.
I hope you can find that balance on my blog. Thanks for stopping by.
But the fruit of the Spirit is:
